Here are three amazing wines to try before we say goodbye to a sizzling summer.
Donnafugata Rosa DOC is a still dry rosé born in Italy and the stunning package is from legendary Italian designers Dolce Gabbana.
Rosa is bright pink with an orange tint, an elegant bouquet of rose petals, and summer cherries. Tastes of fresh juicy cherries are dominate on the palette.
Pairs lovely with vegetarian dishes, salmon, chicken salad on a croissant, omelets, crab salad, and fried oysters.
The bottle is charming and the sturdy box can be repurposed. I use it to store bar soaps, and it matches the décor in my guest bathroom.
Moser Trento DOC sparkling dry rosé extra brut is produced with 100% pinot Noir.
A short maceration with the skins followed by fermentation without the skins results in an elegant wine. A delicious wine with a tantalizing scent of red candy apples from the state fair. Tastes of dried apples, wild forest strawberries, earth, fresh cranberries, and light citrus.
Try pairing Moser rosé with brunch type dishes: scrambled eggs, bacon, turkey bacon, grits, pork sausage, chicken sausage, biscuits with gravy, and lox with bagels,
Massovivo Frescobaldi Vermentino IGT
Massovivo is a stunning straw-yellow color, with soft green reflections. This vermentino has a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers, citrus, thyme, and dried sage. There is a glowing acidity that rounds out the flavor profile. As a savory dry white wine with a bright presence and a long memorable finish.
Vermentino pairs with seafood in creamy sauces, fried seafood, veggie pizza, blackened chicken, goat cheese, and burrata cheese. The high acidity counterbalances the creaminess of soft cheeses.
A little Italian Wine glossary
Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT): which is the broadest category, or IGT. All grapes in IGT wines should come from the IGT region stated on the label, otherwise the wines don’t have to conform to strict standards regarding the style of wine.
Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC): The next highest quality level is Denominazione di Origine Controllata, or DOC, which means “designation of controlled origin.” There are 329 different DOCs in Italy and cover many styles of wine.
