R&B singer Angie Stone died in a car crash early Saturday. She was 63.

Stone was traveling with members of her band from Mobile, Alabama to Atlanta when their van collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 65 about five miles south of Montgomery, according to police and her label.

The Mercedes Benz Sprinter flipped over on the road before it collided with the truck, Lt. Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency told USA TODAY.

Stone, who was a passenger in the van, was declared dead at the scene. Eight other passengers of the van were injured and transported to hospitals for treatment, Burkett said.Stone had performed at a Mardi Gras event in Mobile, Alabama on Friday night, the Mobile-Area Mardi Gras Association said on Facebook.

“Angie’s performance at the 2025 Grand Marshal’s Ball was nothing short of phenomenal,” the group said in a post. “We were truly saddened to hear of Angie’s passing and our hearts go out to you all.””Never in a million years did we ever expect to get this horrible news. Our mom is and will always be our everything. We are still trying to process and are completely heartbroken,” Stone’s children, Diamond Stone and Michael Archer, said in a statement delivered by her label, the SRG-ILS Group.

Fans and admirers posted tributes to X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, noting her songs “Brotha,” an appreciation of Black men, and the theme for the TV show “Girlfriends.”

“It’s a humbling moment to be honored by City Hall; it is truly amazing,” Taft athletic director Austin Gullett said. “This recognition is well-deserved as this team has put in a tremendous amount of hard work – efforts that many do not see behind closed doors. This team is truly special.”

The 2024 Major League Baseball season began on Thursday, March 29.

Our Cincinnati Reds kicked off the season by beating the Washington Nationals 8 to 2. Reds player Nick Martini had two home runs, and Reds pitcher Frankie Montas had six scoreless innings.

Spencer Steer lined an RBI double to right field that plated Jake Fraley in the bottom of the 3rd inning, which put the Reds up by four.

Washington Nationals center fielder Eddie Rosario’s two HRs were not enough to help losing pitcher Josia Gray.

The Cincinnati Reds honored former Reds players who had passed away before the game.

Summer Morgan, the granddaughter of late Reds player Joe Morgan, delivered the game ball with the help of Reds legend George Foster.

Summers’s mother, Lisa Morgan, was in attendance, and former Reds player Sean Casey threw out the first pitch.

Cincinnatian Hydeia Broadbent, who was born with the H.I.V virus, recently died at the age of 39.  A few years ago, I toured across Ohio with her and Marvelynn Brown, who contacted the virus by having unprotected sex. They toured universities and colleges, promoting the Test One Million Campaign, getting the word out about stopping the spread of Aids and H.I.V.

On this tour, a number of celebrities joined the week-long campaign. Thanks to Hydeia, over her life, millions were educated, stigmas were broken and attitudes about H.I.V and Aids were changed.

Hydeia, you made a difference.
